Configuring Task Weighting on Managed Practices

There are three different options for task weighting within Managed Practices. Here is information on each mode and the differences between the modes.

Task weighting on Managed Practices is used to measure the Overall Completed Percentage of a specific Managed Practice. Three modes are offered to help manage how users would like to weight those tasks based on their own internal processes or needs. Once a mode is selected - the mode applies to ALL Managed Practices and their corresponding tasks. The three modes offered are as follows:

  • Off (Simple): In this mode all tasks have the exact same weight.
  • On (Time-Based): In this mode the weight of each task is determined by the value entered in the Projected Hours field of the task.
  • Custom: In this mode the weight of each task is determined by a custom integer entered into the Task Weighting field.

By default Task Weighting is set to "Off". To change this value a user must access Managed Practices Management > Managed Practices Options and change the value to "On" or "Custom".

Examples:

"Off" (Simple): In this example Task Weighting is turned "Off". For a specific Managed Practice we have 12 tasks attached to that practice. The Overall Completed Percentage will start at 0%, and change as tasks are completed. In this instance, if we complete four tasks the calculation works as follows to update the Overall Completed Percentage value:

(sum of completed tasks/sum of total tasks) * 100 OR (4/12)*100 = 33.33%

"On" (Time-Based): In this example Task Weighting is turned "On". In this mode task completion status and calculation is dependent on there being a positive value in the Projected Time field. Using the same Managed Practice as above we will have 12 tasks attached to that practice with a total projected hours of 21. Just like other modes the Overall Completed Percentage will still start at 0%, and change as tasks are completed. In this instance, if we complete four tasks with a total projected hours of 13, the calculation works as follows to update the Overall Completed Percentage value:

(sum of completed tasks' projected hours/sum of all tasks' projected hours)*100 OR (13/21)*100 = 61.90%

"Custom": In this example Task Weighting is turned to "Custom". In this mode task completion status and calculation is dependent on there being a positive value in the Task Weighting field. Using the same Managed Practice as above we will have 12 tasks attached to that practice with a total task weighing of 32. Just like other modes the Overall Completed Percentage will still start at 0%, and change as tasks are completed. In this instance, if we complete four tasks with a total task weighting of 17, the calculation works as follows to update the Overall Completed Percentage value:

(sum of completed tasks' custom weights/sum of all tasks' custom weights)*100 OR (17/32)*100 = 53.13%
